Southern Lepidopterists’ Society and Association for Tropical Lepidoptera Joint Conference is one month away!

The combined meeting will also commemorate the McGuire Center’s 20th anniversary.

Thursday, October 10  – Sunday, October 13, 2024  Gainesville, Florida

Thursday  

  • 4:00 – 5:00 PM   Registration at McGuire Center  

Friday

  • 8:00 AM. – 9:00 AM   Registration;
  • 9:00 AM Presentations at McGuire Center
  • 6:00 PM  Annual Banquet at Sweetwater Branch Inn. 
  • Renowned butterfly photographer Rick Cech will be our Keynote speaker.

Saturday    

  • 8:00 AM  Presentations at McGuire Center                 
  • 4:00 PM  Picnic and mothing at Morningside Nature Center (see details below)

Sunday      

  • 8:00 AM. – noon  Presentations at McGuire Center

Saturday Picnic & Mothing  – 

Morningside Nature Center, east of Gainesville (3540 E. University Ave., Gainesville)

  • 4:00 PM  ATL-SLS ‘Mothing workshop’
  • 6:00-7:00 PM – Buffet-style picnic dinner at Morningside’s Pavilion
  • Dusk until midnight – Mothing!!  Attendees are encouraged to bring moth lighting, photography,  and collecting gear.

Hilton UF Conference Center – A block of rooms is being held for ATL-SLS meeting attendees at the Hilton UF, directly across the street from the McGuire Center.  5 ‘double queen’ & 5 ‘standard king’ rooms; nightly rate quoted, $169. The combined in-person/virtual Annual Meeting will be held at the McGuire Center for Lepidoptera and Biodiversity, Florida Museum of Natural History, University of Florida, Gainesville, 11-13 October 2024, with presentations FridaySaturday morning and afternoon and Sunday morning. The banquet will be held Friday evening.

2023 Annual Meeting Announcement

2023 Combined Annual Meeting of the Southern Lepidopterists’ Society and the Association for Tropical Lepidoptera

Please join us for the combined in-person annual meetings in Gainesville, Florida, 13-15 October 2023. A call for papers and registration forms will be distributed by August, or you may contact Deborah Matthews in advance by email (). Events will begin with a Friday evening reception hosted by Bob and Becky Belmont at their new home bordering Gainesville’s Split Rock Conservation Area. Bob will have a moth sheet set up for collecting at his home Friday night and collecting opportunities within the Conservation Area may be arranged in advance by contacting Bob directly (). McGuire Center Collections access will be available before and after the meetings by contacting Andrei Sourakov (). Talks will take place in the McGuire Center Conference Room Saturday morning and afternoon, as well as Sunday morning. The Saturday evening banquet will be held at the Gainesville Women’s Club, 2809 W. University Ave. We look forward to seeing you here again at the McGuire Center!
